Journal Entry: Jet lag makes you Irrational

I made it to the hostel. I even managed to buy a SIM card [at Termini] and call Jan and Andy at home. I’m so tired, I just need sleep. I have a sore spot on my stomach, well really right abdomen. I was feeling it in the shower and thought it could be a hernia. I nearly passed out from not breathing. I hope I don’t fall apart without V. with me. I’ll feel better tomorrow. My rational brain has shut down.

Not Rome, but this fits how I feel when jet lagged

“Pret” had cheese and bacon stuffed croissant for £3.95. Not bad, that was plus a bottle of diet coke. My thoughts are increasingly incoherent. They finally showed the flight’s gate on the board. It still doesn’t say how delayed it is. I need a nap.

Did not get upgraded. Flight wasn’t too bad despite the fact that the girl in front of me had her seat back for the *entire* flight. Heathrow Terminal 5 still sucks. My flight to Rome is delayed and the board doesn’t even say how long. Had to go back through security for connecting flight. I’m tired but am handling the time change better than usual I think.

Journal Entry: Terminal 5 Fail

11:45am

I don't know what all the hype was about the new terminal 5 at Heathrow. It sucks! There's no fast food restaurants, no food court, it's loud, the escalators are like nails across a blackboard and they don't put what gate you're supposed to be at until an hour before departure and they tell people not to go to the other two concourses, which are reached by a train, until the screen says the gate which means no one knows where they need to be, so it's really crowded in the main area. The gates on the other hand are empty! Finally they announce my gate and there is enough seating here at this gate for two or three flights. Maybe more. I don't get it. Maybe it's because I'm exhausted. I suppose V. made her connection, as she hasn't called me.

So tired. Not to complain or anything. Flight was fine, comfortable for a change. I'm not the least sore as I wasn't cramped up. I still couldn't sleep well though. I think I dozed a bit but that's it. Feeling a bit sick to my stomach. Probably dehydrated. Had two glasses of water in the Arrivals Lounge and a bit of breakfast, a piece of tasty sausage and a hash brown. Had a shower too and that improved my mood greatly. The water was pretty neat. It alternated hot and cold. It was quite refreshing. Now a three and a half hour wait for my flight to Rome. Hopefully V. made her connection at Charles De Gaulle.

Because I booked the flights separately the girl at passport control felt the need to ask me a million questions, like why, how come, and why again. Jet lagged and explaining yourself to passport control is never easy anyway. I was like, it was cheaper and I wanted to go to the Arrivals Lounge. That seemed sufficient, so she let me through. As if I could stay. I have a husband, a job and land at home. Man, my writing sucks after being awake for so long and I can't concentrate, and so I keep changing streams of thought.
