I’m on the train now. The seats are
kinda worn but there’s a lot of leg room and my seat is by itself. Not the
greatest first class, but not horrible. And it was only fifteen dollars more
than second. Worth the extra room.

We ran into an Australian couple who
had quit their jobs and were spending three months traveling, then they were
going to look for work. There’s more to life than work. The problem is, we
Americans wind up in debt from college and just debt in general, then we can’t
quit our jobs. We’re forced to work like dogs, and for what? I don’t even know.
Cheap plastic crap from China? We ran into a French family, the father spoke
English, and he mentioned how they get 35+ days a year off. That was at
Peyrepertuse. They were on holiday. What do we get? In general, less than half
of that. It’s bullshit. You work your whole life and for what? You can’t take
it with you. It seems Americans are generally miserable and don’t know how to
stop and look around them, life is passing everyone by. Everything in the
States is open late, all year round. We don’t even know how to take holidays!
I want to move to the Pyrenees and
start a tour company in Carcassonne. That’s quite mad isn’t it? I could take
people up to the Cathar fortresses, and give tours in English. I’d be in great
shape if I climbed mountains every day. Andy could paint landscapes and sell
them. He’s a good painter. He doesn’t paint any more though. And he should. It
sounds like a crazy dream... [redacted]
